PRODUCED LOCALLY

We are proudly kiwi owned and operated in New Plymouth, and get our ingredients from NZ dairy farms and produce companies. This lets us support the local industry whenever possible, and limit our reliance on imports, as well as making sure all our ingredients meet our ethical standards.
NZ Grassfed 100% Fresh Whey
OUR STORY

FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Grassfed NZ was founded in the small coastal town of New Plymouth, to provide fellow kiwis with an ethically homegrown and high-quality alternative to imported protein products.

Like many New Zealanders, we care about where our food comes from and how it is produced, so it was a no brainer to make the most out of our excellent local dairy industry. We aim to create products and options to satisfy a range of lifestyles and tastes.

Rather than limiting our range to bulky multi-month supply packs in a couple of flavours, we decided to provide our customer with a wide variety of delicious flavours, available in more manageable quantities, but at no extra cost. That way our smaller tubs can be mixed and matched for a new taste every day, instead of being stuck week after week eating the same old flavour.

OUR PROCESS

FROM THE FARM TO YOUR DOORSTEP

In New Zealand, dairy cows are raised in outdoor pastures, where grazing through fields of grass provides them with all the nutrient essential to their healthy development and milk production. While substances like rBGH can be injected to induce or increase milk production, such practices are thankfully outlawed in NZ and our cows are safe from exogenous hormones.

1.
At dawn and dusk, the cows are milked and their fresh milk is collected in tanks.
2.
Dairy trucks pick up these milk tanks and deliver them to nearby fonterra factories.
3.
The milk is then pasteurised - heated to 74 degrees Celsius for 15 seconds to kill harmful bacterias.
4.
Once pasteurised the milk is transported to the nearest cheese processing plant where it will undergo a coagulation process.
5.
An edible acidic substance is added to the milk which causes the casein proteins to destabilize and form milk curds, a solid substance.
6.
The milk curds are collected and turned into cheese while the remaining liquid consists of a combination of whey protein, fat and lactose, a form of sugar.
7.
This leftover whey protein undergoes a filtering process to separate it from undesirable lactose and fat.
8.
This process is repeated several more times to yield a high protein, low sugar, low fat, whey protein concentrate.
9.
The protein is then bagged up and sent to the Grassfed NZ headquarters where we carefully blend it with our other ingredients at a registered cooking facility.
10.
The flavoured whey is then packaged, labeled and temper sealed to ensure quality.
11.
We package and ship your order promptly via NZ couriers.
12.
The parcels are transported overnight to distribution centers, to be picked up and delivered to your doorstep by local NZ couriers the next day.
